Cuisine Portuguese
- 8 chicken wings (approx. 600g) wing tips removed and jointed to give 16 pieces in total
- 2 tsp baking powder (see Notes)
- 0.5 tsp salt
- 0.25 tsp pepper
- vegetable or sunflower oil spray
For the sauce:
- 120ml piri piri sauce - I use Nando’s medium (see Notes)
- 50g butter
Put the wings into a large bowl and toss well with the baking powder, salt, and pepper until all of the wings are coated.
Place the seasoned wings in the air fryer basket(s), or on racks, sprayed with oil (you may need to work in batches depending on the size of your drawer(s)).
Cook at 120C for 15 minutes then turn the wings over and cook at 200C for 15 minutes.
Make the sauce - melt the butter in a small saucepan, then add the piri piri sauce. Simmer gently for 5 minutes.
Once the wings are cooked, transfer them to a serving bowl, pour over the sauce and enjoy!
- Sauce – change out piri piri sauce for hot sauce (I like Frank’s RedHot Wings Buffalo Sauce) to make buffalo wings instead!
- Baking powder makes the chicken skin blister and air frying makes them lovely and crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside!
- This easy air fryer piri piri chicken wings recipe is easily adapted if you’re cooking for less or more people.
