These grilled salmon tacos with chipotle lime yogurt are fresh, smoky, and bursting with flavour. A quick, healthy dinner perfect for Taco Tuesday or any night of the week!

The original recipe appeared in the Summer 2022 BBC Easy Cook magazine and is on the BBC Good Food website.

I love Mexican food and fish, so this was a winner for me.  It's a super quick recipe to prepare and cook and is on the table in under 30 minutes! They're a great alternative to traditional beef tacos, they're lighter, full of omega-3s and are perfect for summer meals.

The rub for the salmon is lovely and smoky and is balanced perfectly with the zesty smoky yogurt, crunchy cabbage, fresh coriander and lime, and some heat from the pickled jalapeño chillies.   Give it a bit of extra heat if you fancy with a shake of hot chilli sauce!

Tips

  • Optional variations:
    • Add mango chunks or pineapple salsa for a tropical twist.
    • Make it into a bowl by serving the salmon, toppings and sauce over rice or quinoa.
    • Use gluten-free corn tortillas to make it gluten-free.
  • This grilled salmon tacos with chipotle lime yogurt recipe is easily adapted if you’re cooking for less or more people.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I bake or pan-fry the salmon instead of grilling it?

Yes - bake it at 220C/200C fan/gas 7 for around 12 minutes or pan-fry for 3 on the skin side and then 1 minute on the flesh side.

Can I make this ahead of time?

The chipotle lime yogurt can be made 1 to 2 days in advance. You can also prep the toppings and marinate the salmon earlier in the day.

What tortillas are best?

Corn tortillas give a traditional flavour, but flour tortillas hold together better. Warm them before serving for the best texture.

Is it spicy?

The heat is mild to medium. You can reduce or increase the chipotle, to taste.

Can I make this dairy-free?

Yes - swap the yogurt with unsweetened coconut or oat-based yogurt.
